Making change

I bought dinner at a Jack in the Box the other night. The young man at the counter mentioned that he was 16 and that it was his first day on the job. When my bill came to $6.52, I gave him $7.02. He immediately tried to give me a dollar back, saying that I gave him too much.

I said, "No, my change is 50 cents."

He said, "Oh, yeah, I'm not too good a math."

I might have inadvertantly shook my head and sighed.

oh boy . . . the art of making change is rarely taught these days. if the computerized cash register doesn't tell the clerks how much the change is, they don't know what to do!! now admittedly, i am pretty much math-challenged unless i'm using it a LOT but i do know how to make change . . . :-)

Where I work, we earn minimum wage and have college degrees and excellent math skills. We make change all day with the greatest of ease.
