50-Miler Day 5

I left off the story of our 2009 50-miler camped on Rainbow Creek a couple of miles from the Stehekin River Road. When we woke up on the last day, we weighed two options: eating the same stale breakfast of trail food, or hoofing it the last 5 miles into Stehekin for a real breakfast. Real food won out. After quickly packing our gear, the last two miles of trail was pleasant and downhill. That was followed by walking 3 miles on the Stehekin River Road into Stehekin. The road passes through an area with scattered homes at first, then follows the edge of Lake Chelan. After breakfast, we saw the Lake Chelan Airways float plane arrive. We caught our boat back to the real world at about noon. We left behind this beautiful view of McGregor Mtn.
We were met at the Chelan boat dock by our driver and arrived home 4 hours later. Great trip!

Cut my Hand

On Thursday morning, I fell on concrete steps while holding a ceramic pot. The pot broke, and I cut my a finger on the shards. M. drove me to my regular doctor to get sewn up, but I was told that the fingernail root had been cut and that I needed to see a plastic or orthopedic surgeon to repair it. They found an orthopedic guy on call, and off we went. The ortho guy decided that the nail bed had not been cut, so he irrigated the wounds, wrapped me up, and sent me home. Friday I took a one-day round trip to LA for business meetings with a big bandage on my finger. No one asked about it!
